Maryville man killed in Blockhouse Road crash involving tractor, dump truck

UPDATE Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017

A man killed in a crash on Blockhouse Road Monday night has been identified.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office said Billy Earl Hearon, 57, was pronounced dead at around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Deputies said he was traveling southwest on Blockhouse Road in a Massey Ferguson tractor when he was allegedly rear-ended by a man in a 2006 Mack dump truck.

The driver of the dump truck, Joshua Alan Sartain, was wearing a seatbelt. According to the sheriff's office, when the dump truck hit Hearon's tractor, Hearon was thrown from his tarctor into a ditch on the right side of the road. The dump truck came to a stop on top of Hearon. 

A woman driving a 2000 Chevrolet Astrovan was traveling on Blockhouse Road as the accent happened and swerved to avoid colliding with the vehicles, but she was not injured, the sheriff's office said.

One person died in a crash between a dump truck and a tractor south of Maryville Monday evening. 

The Blount County Sheriff's Office responded to the collision on Blockhouse Road.

Officials said they were still piecing together what happened, but they did confirm one person died in the crash.

The victim's name has not been released.
