Coming from Beckley, West Virginia, I’m thrilled to bring my enthusiasm for storytelling to East Tennessee.
I’m a graduate of West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. That’s where my journalism experience started. Right after graduation, I moved south to Beckley, WV and had my first opportunity at WVNS-TV (59 News). While I was there I learned how to report, shoot and edit video, tell a compelling story, anchor and produce.
From an 8-week long criminal trial of the former coal boss, Don Blankenship, to a rare tornado ripping a family’s home to pieces, my time in WV gave me the tools I needed to take my next career step.
I stayed in West Virginia for two years then moved to Knoxville in January, 2016, to be the co-anchor of mornings with fox 43 (7AM-9AM).
I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, but moved to eastern West Virginia when I was 10 years old. I’m a huge fan of biking, hiking, snowboarding, camping --- all things outdoors. If you want to know anything else you can ask on Facebook or Twitter! @BBatesWBIR
