It's time again for music on Market Square!
The Knoxville Jazz Orchestra will kick off this year's City’s Concerts on the Square series on Tuesday, May 2. The KJO’s Youth Orchestra will warm up the crowd from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and the KJO will play 8-10 p.m.
Jazz Tuesdays continue through Aug. 29 with jazz combo Marble City 5 at the helm. Shows take place 8-10 p.m.
Variety Thursdays begin with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra on May 4, at 7:30 p.m.
Additional Variety Thursday performers (who will play 7-9 p.m.) are:
May 11: Country singer Joe Lasher Jr., presented by Ingles;
May 18: Sixteen-piece big band Ensemble Swing Time;
May 25: Singer-songwriter Jonathan Sexton;
June 1: Blues band Blue Line Blues, featuring members of the Knoxville Police Department;
June 8: Nashville classic rock band The Bicho Brothers;
June 15: Square Dancing on the Square, with music by The Hellgrammites and caller Stan Sharp
June 22: Singer-songwriter and former Knoxvillian Louise Mosrie; and
June 29: Nashville pianist Kendall Ray.
All the shows are free, and free parking is available in city-owned garages after 6 p.m. No alcohol or food will be sold on Market Square, but there are 14 restaurants, many with patios, where you could enjoy a drink with the music.
