For the Watch | This episode felt like Olly stabbed me in the heart five separate times but I don't even care

[SPOILER ALERT] This week’s episode brought us so many moments of genuine transformation and heartfelt exchanges between the characters. But only because everyone’s going to die.

1. Ok, Jaime Lannister's on trial apparently, but I’m not worried. This show won’t go into the final battle without him.

2. Oh, yay, he can stay at Winterfell. What do ya know?

3. I always knew Dany would be upset at Tyrion for the whole Cersei situation.

4. With all this White Walker drama, Dany doesn't have time to wonder why her boyfriend is ignoring her, but it clearly bothers her.

5. Mmmm, White Walkers look like death, huh, Gendry? You’re already looking at death, and you think it's kinda cute. I love seeing characters who knew pre-assassin Arya react to her now.

6. Re: My weapon? will now be the subject line in every one of my work emails from here on out.

7. Jaime’s walking up to Bran thinking he’s just meditating or something, but really he’s about to get a good dose of reconciliation.

8. Very underrated moment, but Cersei’s pregnancy is now confirmed, I guess.

9. Ok, I have a theory that I’ve told anyone who will listen over the past couple of years. And it’s that when/if Jaime Lannister dies, he will die in Brienne of Tarth’s arms. In one episode someone asks him how he wants to die and he said, “In the arms of the woman I love.” In another episode, when he’s telling Brienne about the truth behind his Kingslayer name, he collapses into her arms.

10. I want Dany and Sansa to be pals.

11. Men do stupid things for women. I bet Sansa’s flashing back to Robb Stark right now.

12. What about the North? This is interesting coming from Sansa. It seems like her time in King's Landing and away from the North really informed her separatist agenda, which is totally fine except that Dany really does not understand where Sansa is coming from.

13. Now that Theon is back though, I feel for Dany in these scenes. In all her fierceness and just blind ambition to get the throne, people forget she’s lost her entire family twice. She lost all the Targaryens, and she lost her family with Khal Drogo. Now, she's surrounded by all these characters who genuinely love each other and all she has is her dragons. She has Jon, but that's complicated obviously.

14. Lord Commander Eddison Tollett reiterating that whoever’s “not with us is with them” is low-key a pretty significant moment. It suggests that we could see a lot of the characters we love as undead.

15. I get why Theon would want to guard Bran for the sake of his redemptive character arc…but is he really the best guy for the gig?

16. Thank you, Bran for these wonderful insights into the Night King’s ultimate motivations for ending the entire world?? Where were these two seasons ago?? Bran is the worst.

17. This episode is slow. But I’m really trying to cherish these moments because I’m sure they’ll all die soon.

18. If Missandei and Grey Worm don’t make it to the Isle of Naath I’m liable to send out a strongly worded email.  Subject line, Re: my weapon?

19. This moment with the last remaining Night’s Watch members is significant.  This White Walkers thing is new to everyone else but them, so while the outlook is bleak for everyone these guys seem to have accepted their fate because they were protecting people from them awhile ago.

20. I so appreciate a glass of wine, especially with the Lannister brothers, but I’m just saying that if I knew the army of the dead were marching on Winterfell I wouldn’t…

21. OH BRIENNE OF TARTH COMMANDER OF THE *LEFT FLANK* SAID THE SAME THING! I so agree Brienne, I so agree.

22. On my honor as a journalist I swear I wrote that in real time.

23. Wait, I know Tormund is trolling Jaime right now but I actually have always wanted to know why they call him Giantsbane.

24. All the giants milk why can’t he guard Bran?

25. ARYA! OH MY GOD [CENSORED]

26. Okay you know what I don’t even care winter is here, the undead are marching south, multiple people are [CENSORED] with their own family on this show I don’t care. Let a girl live.

27. “I have a son. You have a daughter. We’ll join our houses.” - Robert Baratheon mwahaha you right

28. I’m twelve. But like, so is Arya??

29. I’m sad watching this scene. It might be the last time we see people gather around a fire and just talk.

30. Aww, Jaime knighting Brienne is adorable and totally deserved.

31. I’d name my daughter Ser Brienne of Tarth.

32. Why Jorah is bothering to tell Lyanna Mormont what to do is beyond me.

33. Good of Sam to gift him his family’s sword, as his buddy Jon is carrying Jorah’s ancestral one.

34. Dang Pod has a good voice what can’t this man do.

35. This scene is so rude, half of these people are going to die in the next episode.

36. Oh gosh, back to the crypts. I guess this is where Jon will finally tell Dany what’s up.

37. Yeah, he doesn’t waste much time with this.

38. Wow. Dany really does NOT care that they are related she’s just worried about his claim to the throne.

39. Ope and a singular horn summons them up.

40. That slow pan out of Tyrion at Winterfell brings me back to Battle of Blackwater Bay.

Alright, and we're on to next week! This episode was definitely slow, but we needed to cherish it for what it was. And what it was were people's last conversations with each other, because a lot of these guys won't make it out of the next episode. That makes it a different kind of grief than the kind we're about to face. Ugh. I'm sad. See ya next week, pals!
