More than 200 athletes from across the state of Tennessee gathered at Ober Gatlinburg this week for the annual Special Olympics Winter Games where they competed in events like skiing, snowboarding and speed skating.

After opening ceremonies on Sunday, training on Monday and the competition on Tuesday, athletes congratulated one another at an awards ceremony before the three-day event came to a close.

Speed skater Kara Jackson said she tried her best and strives to live out the motto of Special Olympics which is, "let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."
