Leopard Fun Run teaches kids life lessons

Pace don't race is a healthy approach to life

The mascot Smoky from the University of Tennessee cheered and clapped Friday with Lottie the mascot from A.L. Lotts Elementary School.

They joined students, teachers, and staff for the Leopard Fun Run.

"We want to encourage our children, our students to be active and healthy. But something that I think is huge is that our kids can also do that for us," Tassi Williams said. "They can go out and tell their parents to either start walking or running of they already do then they can do it together."

Tassi Williams is the chair of the event. She said it not only encourages fitness but also gets the kids involved with fundraising.

"It gives them a chance to take ownership and go out to their family and to their community and bring those pledges back in to our school and 100% of all of those pledges and donations go directly back to A.L. Lotts," she said.

They raised about $40,000.

The students earned medals for completing 25 laps. They were made by the same company that makes the medals for the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon.

The theme for the run was Leopard Strong, Dream Big.

"No matter what our kids do they can dream big. Whether it is a sports they are in now or one day if they want to be an Olympic athlete, run a marathon or a half marathon. Whatever they want to do and what they are passionate about they can do that, just dream big," she said.
