-1 cup all-purpose flour
-3 TB. Baking powder
-2 TB. Brown sugar
-1 tsp. Salt
-2 Tb. shortening (Butter)
-3/4 C. mashed, cooked sweet potatoes
-1/4 c. Milk (Buttermilk)
*1 Tb. ground Allspice
*1/2 tsp. ground Black Pepper
*1/2 tsp ground Mace
*1/2 tsp. ground cloves
*1/2 tsp. Cinnamon

-Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
-In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Cut in the shortening until pieces of shortening are pea-sized or smaller. Mix in the sweet potatoes, and enough of the milk to make a soft dough.
-Turn dough out onto a floured surface, and roll or pat out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into circles using a biscuit cutter or a drinking glass. Place biscuits 1 inch apart onto a greased baking sheet.

-Bake for 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown.

• *Time saving tips:
• -Use canned mashed sweet potatoes, baby food sweet potatoes, or leftover sweet potatoes in this recipe.
• -Use self rising flour to save a little time.
• -Keep your butter in the freezer and grate it with a grater directly over the flour mixture to make it easier to incorporate into the flour, while keeping it cold.
