Portland police are investigating the death of a boy who they say was struck and killed by a CSX train late Thursday night.

According to police, at 10:22 p.m., officers were contacted by CSX officials who told them a southbound train struck a person walking along the tracks just south of South Russell Street.

Officers arrived and found the body of a boy and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The boy's identity has not yet been released pending notification of his family, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
