Buddy Check 10: Bowling for a Cure

The Pigeon Forge community rallies together every year to support breast cancer awareness.

Bowling for a Cure has raised more than $65,000 since it started nine years ago.

"I don't want any person in the future to have to be touched by this disease," said Polly Maples, an event volunteer.

All the money raised goes to providing life-saving mammograms for people in their community. "The more we can do, the more money we can raise to get rid of this disease," said Polly.

She knows first hand how research and funding have made a difference through the years.

"I lost a grandmother back in '48 to the disease. Back then they diagnosed you and sent you home. And we've come such a long way now, and hopefully one day it will be gone."

Bowling for a cure is February 20th and 21st this year at the Pigeon Forge Community Center. Entry fee is $15, and there are several shifts throughout the day. For more information, you can call 865-429-7373.
