2 arrested after traffic stop leads to foot chase at Blount Co., Alcoa line

Deputies recovered a bag containing about 300 prescription pills as well as two knives when they searched the car. 

Two people have been taken into custody after Blount County deputies said they took off running after a traffic stop Wednesday morning.

William Edward Welsh, 29, and Alexandra Nokomis Tuck, 21, were pulled over for violating multiple traffic laws, according to the Blount County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies pulled the two over shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday. There were four people in vehicle when it pulled out of a business at the intersection of Hunt Road and Old Knoxville Highway. The deputy said he initiated his emergency equipment and followed the vehicle. It was heading out of town on Hunt Road when it turned onto McNutt Street and stopped, the deputy said.

According to the sheriff's office, Welsh and Tuck were in the back seat. Welsh allegedly gave the deputy a false name before he shoved the deputy and fled on foot into a field.

While the deputy said he was attempting to get Welsh into custody, Tuck got out of the truck and took off in the opposite direction.

According to the sheriff's office, an officer with Alcoa Police spotted Welsh walking about a mile away on Poplar Street in Alcoa. He was taken into custody.

Tuck was spotted running through the back yard of an off-duty officer with the University of Tennessee Hospital. She was taken into custody about four blocks from the location of the traffic stop. She admitted she ran because she was wanted on outstanding warrants, according to the Blount County Sheriff's Office.

Welsh was charged with evading arrest, felony aggravated assault, possession of a legend drug, criminal impersonation, resisting arrest, and three outstanding warrants for violating probation. He is being held on bonds totaling $12,500 on the current charges, and without bond on the outstanding warrant.

Tuck was charged with evading arrest, as well as three felony violation of probation warrants and three warrants for failure to appear.

Both scheduled to appear in Blount County General Sessions Court at on Nov. 8 at 9 a.m.

According to the sheriff's office, two other individuals in the car, the driver and front seat passenger, were released with no charges.
