Three people have been charged in the murder of Cameron Smith, 19, and attempted murder of Luke Halliburton, 20.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that Jorge Ortiz Gonzales, 21, Cameron Brewer, 18, and a 16-year-old juvenile have been arrested in the deadly shooting that happened in Powell on West Emory Road on Oct. 10.
Gonzales was taken into custody at approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday in the 9000 block of Cross Park Boulevard. He has been charged with first degree murder and attempted second degree murder.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., Cameron Brewer and a 16-year-old male juvenile were taken into custody at McCalla Avenue. Brewer has been charged with first degree murder and attempted second degree murder.
The juvenile was charged with felony murder, possession of a gun during a felony, and a juvenile in possession of a gun. He is being held in the Richard L. Bean Juvenile Detention Facility, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
Lucas Halliburton, 20, was injured and Cameron Smith, 19, was killed after shots were fired at the Sebring they were in on Oct. 10.
Investigators said a black 2015 mustang that the 3 suspects were in was chasing Smith when the shooting happened. It's believed the shooting and chase stemmed from a drug deal that happened earlier in the week.
On Oct. 6, there was a narcotics deal involving $80 for a small amount of marijuana involving Halliburton and Gonzalez. During that deal, Halliburton used fake money to purchase drugs from Gonzalez.
Cameron Smith was not present during the transaction, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
According to Major Crimes Unit Major Mike MacLean, Ortiz attempted to lure Halliburton and Smith to Ammons Street on Oct. 10 in an attempt to get his money back.
When the Smith and Halliburton drove up, they saw several people around a black Mustang and decided to drive away. The Mustang followed and began shooting at the Chrysler Sebring that Smith was driving. According to the sheriff's office, the car came to a stop in the 2500 block of East Emory.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene and Halliburton was treated for gunshot wounds.
MacLean declined comment on if any charges will be filed against Halliburton.

Investigators still don't know the motive behind a shooting that left one man dead and another injured in Powell.
At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, KCSO Major Mike MacLean said they have identified two persons of interest and impounded a black Mustang, but they have still not determined if they were involved in the incident.
Investigators have determined that while the black Mustang chased the white Sebring for several miles on Clinton Highway and Emory Road, shots were only fired at the end, in about the last 500 yards before the car came to rest.
Several other vehicles were hit by bullet fragments, but no one else was injured,
The sheriff's office praised the witnesses who came forward and spent time telling investigators what they had seen, and encourage anyone else with information to come forward. They are particularly interested in hearing from any businesses who may have surveillance cameras that could have gotten video of the vehicles as they were driving on Clinton Highway or Emory Road.
Sgt. MacLean said that the surviving victim, Lucas Halliburton, was "doing well." Investigators were able to interview him, and he said he did not know why anyone was shooting at them.

Lucas Halliburton, 20, was riding in a Sebring when the incident happened. He was transported to UT Medical Center in stable condition, according to the sheriff's office.
KCSO said the passenger in the Mustang was shooting at the Sebring with a handgun.
Rural/Metro officials said "multiple" gun shots were fired.

A 19-year-old man is dead and a 20-year-old man is in critical condition after a shooting on Emory Road in Powell Tuesday evening.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office said a black Ford Mustang was chasing a white Chrysler Sebring from Clinton Highway near Powell Drive to the 2500 block of Emory Road around 6 p.m.
KCSO said the passenger in the Mustang was shooting at the Sebring with a handgun.
Rural/Metro officials said "multiple" gun shots were fired, and one person was taken to the hospital.
KCSO said 19-year-old Cameron Smith, the driver of the Sebring, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a 20-year-old man whose name has not yet been released, is in critical condition at UT Medical Center.
There was a heavy police presence on the scene near the Broadacres subdivision and Powell High School Tuesday evening, including several marked and unmarked cruisers, and at least one ambulance.
Witnesses on scene told 10News people driving nearby stopped and administered first aid to two people from the second vehicle.
The sheriff's office is still searching for the black Mustang, a 2006-2008 model, and the driver, a white male, and a black male passenger. Investigators have not identified a motive in the shooting.
