KPD arrests Detroit man wanted in Ohio after investigation into Knoxville overdose deaths

KPD said the man was wanted as a fugitive from justice, saying it expects to file more charges after finding powder and pills believed to be fentanyl or heroin.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A man from Detroit is in custody as Knoxville police continue to investigate three overdose deaths.

The Knoxville Police Department said officers arrested Donjae Bell, 29, on Monday after executing a state search warrant at 1900 Dutch Valley Drive in North Knoxville as part of the months-long investigation.

Police said they located Bell inside the apartment and found powder and pills they suspect are heroin or fentanyl. Officers said they also found items for selling and manufacturing drugs as well as other unknown pills.

The items police confiscated were sent off for testing. The arrest report said Bell was arrested and charged with being a fugitive from justice for contempt of court in Ohio. Police said they expect more charges will be filed related to Monday's operation and the overdose investigation.
