KCSO: Man arrested for impersonating officer, pulling gun on woman

Troy Norman, 40 of Powell, was arrested on Jan. 20 for driving on a revoked license from a previous DUI. After an investigation, the sheriff's office said they charged him with aggravated assault and criminal impersonation. Those charges were filed on Jan. 26.

UPDATE Jan. 29: A man accused of impersonating an officer has been charged after Knox County investigators said he impersonated an officer and pulled a gun on a woman in the parking lot of a North Knox County gym.

Troy Norman, 40 of Powell, was arrested on Jan. 20 for driving on a revoked license from a previous DUI. After an investigation, the sheriff's office said they charged him with aggravated assault and criminal impersonation. Those charges were filed on Jan. 26.

He is being held in the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility on a combined bond of $37,000.

According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, Norman has a criminal history in Knox County that includes DUI, reckless boating, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and multiple other driving and boating offenses.

UPDATE Jan. 20: The Knox County Sheriff's Office said they have the man suspected of impersonating an officer in custody.

The man is accused of pulling a gun on a woman in a parking lot of a North Knox County gym last week.

According to the earlier investigation from KCSO, a white male confronted a woman in the Workout Anytime parking lot off West Emory Road at around 5:45 p.m. Sunday. The suspect claimed he was an officer and pointed a handgun in her direction.

KCSO said the suspect was picked up by patrol on Saturday and charged with driving on a revoked driver's license.

KCSO Major Crimes Unit is still investigating the impersonation and aggravated assault charges. KCSO will release more details as they continue the investigation.

PREVIOUS Jan. 19: The Knox County Sheriff’s Office said they're searching for a man accused of impersonating a police officer and pulling a gun on a woman in the parking lot of a North Knox County gym.

According to the initial investigation, a white male confronted a woman in the parking lot of Workout Anytime on 3547 West Emory Road around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday. The sheriff's office said he identified himself as a police officer and pointed a handgun in her direction.

The suspect left in a silver Toyota Tacoma. He is described as a white male, approximately 5’7”-5’9”, 155-165 pounds, and 40-50-years-old.
