KPD: Anger at failed gun purchase leads to arrest for drugs, guns & fake cash

While Knoxville Police were looking for a man who became violent when he wasn't able to buy a gun from a pawn shop, they discovered illegal drugs and counterfeit cash in the man's home.

Knoxville — A Knoxville man's angry reaction when he wasn't allowed to buy a gun led to the discovery of an illegal drug and counterfeiting operation.

On Thursday, officers were called to UT Money Pawn Shop on Chapman Highway just before noon. Employees told police that a man, later identified as 30-year-old Eric Edward Graham, became angry when they refused to sell him a gun because he is a convicted felon.

Graham turned violent, according to KPD, and began physically assaulting employees and damaging numerous items in the shop.

He took off before police arrived, but officers identified him and learned he already had several warrants out for his arrest on aggravated assault, assault, and vandalism charges.

That evening, officers were watching Graham's house on Decatur Drive when they spotted him in the driveway. When they approached him, Graham ran inside the house. Officers found him hiding in a crawl spae and took him into custody.

Officers searched the home, where Graham lived with his mother, and found meth, marijuana, numerous legend narcotics, and an illegal marijuana grow operation. They also discovered about $5,800 in counterfeit currency and a large amount of drug paraphernalia. In Graham’s vehicle, they found two loaded firearms and another large amount of marijuana.

Graham faces multiple charges for possession for resale of schedule 2 and 6 narcotics, felong in possession of a firearm, criminal simulation, drug paraphernalia, and evading arrest. More charges are pending.
