Public's help sought in weekend nightclub killing

Police are asking for the public's help in the shooting that killed Derrick Jones. The gunman was identified as Tyshawn Weaver.

UPDATE: Noon, March 21: Knoxville police are asking for the public's help in learning more about a weekend killing at an East Knoxville nightclub.

According to a news release Wednesday, authorities say many people were in the Queens R Kings club early Sunday when Derrick Jones was shot and killed.

Police would like to speak with people who were in the club at the time of the shooting or who may have information about it.

PREVIOUS STORY: A Knoxville man faces charges in a weekend killing at an East Knoxville nightclub.

The Knoxville Police Department identified the defendant as Tyshawn Weaver, 24.

Early Sunday, police were alerted about a shooting at the Queens R Kings Club on Magnolia Avenue.

Officers saw a man lying on the floor of the club with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead.

Police talked with people at the scene, and they identified "a person of interest," according to a news release.

On Sunday night, they arrested Weaver, 24, of Knoxville. He is charged with second-degree murder.

Weaver was being held in lieu of $500,000 bond at the county's Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility.

The victim was later identified as Derrick W. Jones, 31.
