Nearly 4 hour standoff at Linden Ave home ends peacefully

Members of the KPD Special Operations Squad entered the home at about 3:46 p.m. and placed the suspect into custody without incident.

A 28-year-old Knoxville man is being held on a $35,000 bond after a nearly four hour standoff.

Police arrived at a home on the 2400 block of Linden Avenue just before noon Tuesday after a call about a domestic assault. According to the police department, a woman was outside the home and a man, later identified as Christopher Cornelison, was inside.

Officers said they tried to speak to Cornelison but he refused to cooperate. At the time, three relatives were also still inside with him.

After several minutes of trying to talk to him, KPD negotiators were called to help. For more than three hours, investigators tried to get him to surrender but he refused.

He has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and is being held in the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility.

The police department said more charges could be coming.
