Investigators with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office’s Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force arrested three people from Georgia on prescription fraud charges on Wednesday night.
Atlanta men Javares Jeruntez Smith, 36, and Thomas Anthony Bradley, 25, are both charged with obtaining drugs by fraud, possession of a Schedule V controlled substance with intent to resell and criminal conspiracy to commit prescription fraud.
Felita Shaquawn Brownman, 24, of Decatur, Ga., Brownman is charged with two counts of obtaining drugs by fraud and one count of criminal conspiracy to commit prescription fraud.
Investigators recovered two bottles of Promethazine-Codeine syrup, and 13 fraudulent prescriptions in a vehicle near Foothills Mall Drive in Maryville after tracking down Smith, Bradley and Brownman.
Authorities began their investigation when they were notified that Brownman was attempting to pass a fraudulent prescription. Investigators followed leads to other businesses where people had seen Brownman.
The investigation is ongoing.
The Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force is comprised of deputies and officers with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, Alcoa Police Department and Maryville Police Department.
