A South Knoxville apartment fire forced crews on Monday to shut down Chapman Highway for several hours.

Knoxville Fire Department responded to the fire at Stonewall Apartments in the 5000 block of Chapman Highway in South Knoxville.

The call came in around 11:45 a.m.

Heavy flames and smoke burst through the roof of one of the buildings as crews worked to get it under control.

Officials said 14 units were impacted by the fire and 23 tenants have been displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Some of the units were being remodeled before the fire began.

No injuries have been reported.

KFD had to shutdown the highway to run fire hoses across the road. It fully reopened around 3:15 p.m.
