HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. - An autopsy is pending after a woman's body was found in a septic pond right behind a home in Hawkins County. Her body was discovered by a neighbor on Wednesday. Sheriff deputies are working to identify her and find out what happened.

Billy Joe Carter lives just up the street on Meadow View Road from where the woman's body was found.

"I would like to know who did it and how it was done," Carter said. "I would like to know that."

It was Teresa Blackwell who discovered the body on in the septic runoff pond behind Blackwell's home. She said she was out doing chores when she made the shocking discovery.

"I happened to look, you know what I'm saying, and told my husband I said, 'there's somebody laying down there,'" Blackwell said, "and he thought it might be a dummy, you know what I'm saying? But it wasn't a dummy. it was somebody."

She said it was obvious the woman was dead.

"Just tell from looking at her because she was sort of swelled, you know what I'm saying? I mean you could tell that much," Blackwell said.

Police declined an interview until they have more information about the woman's identity or how she got here.

Sheriff Ronnie Lawson said previously the woman was wearing a tank top, hoodie, and blue jeans, but no shoes and she didn't have identification. He also said she had a tattoo on her lower stomach.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have information that could help to call the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office at (423) 272-4848.
