One man's backyard brush burn turned into an 85-acre brush fire in Briceville Friday.

State forestry officials say the homeowner had a burn permit to burn some yard debris behind his house off Highway 116 in Anderson County. They say he was not breaking any laws.

Several agencies responded when the fire got out of control.

Forestry officials say there are homes located very close to where the fire is burning. Officials do not believe there is a need to evacuate those homes. There are crews on "structure patrol." They are putting out any flames that get too close to the homes. No homes have been damaged.

Most of the affected area belongs to one company.

Forestry officials say the weather conditions are similar to the conditions in our area during the fall of 2016.

There is no burn ban in effect, but state and local officials are advising people to be extremely cautious while burning.
