Kids in the Carter community now have a new place to spend their time after school.

The Carter Boys and Girls Club had their official ribbon cutting Thursday evening at the old Carter Middle School gym.

Officials have been working for more than two years to bring the Boys and Girls Club to the Strawberry Plains area. The celebration included catered food and live music.

Boys and Girls Club officials say they're excited to finally open the doors to the Carter community.

"We are so excited to be here, the outpouring of support from the community has been phenomenal. We were looking for opportunities for young people to help them be successful academically; this is a great place to be right on the school campus to really help the young people be the most they can be," said Dr. Lisa Hurst, Boys and Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley president and CEO.

Starting next week, you can go by the club between 8 and 5 and register your child for their various programs.
