An Anderson County highway damaged by last month's heavy rains has reopened, according to a Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesman.

State Route 116, also known as Briceville Highway, was shut down after precipitation split it into several fragmented segments. The highway is the main route from Briceville to Rocky Top.

Rains the weekend of April 22 caused flooding across much of East Tennessee.

State crews have been working to rebuild parts of SR116.

District 1 spokesman Mark Nagi tweeted Tuesday that the highway was once again back open to travelers.
