Building at Countryside Apartments in Seymour destroyed in fire

The fire department said no one was seriously hurt in the apartment fire, but one building was destroyed.

Multiple people in Seymour are displaced and lost many of their possessions after a fire destroyed their apartment building.

An apartment building at Countryside Apartments on Old Sevierville Pike holding nine units caught fire overnight. The Seymour Fire Department said crews were able to protect the two buildings next to it as they fought back the flames.

Everyone at the apartment complex was able to get out safely. One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The fire started around 12:30 a.m. Four fire departments along with 20 to 30 fire fighters from Seymour, Sevier County, Northview Kodak and Waldens Creek were called in to help, and the Sevier County Sheriffs Department helped with evacuations.

Seymour Volunteer Fire Department assistant chief Aaron Keck said firefighters had trouble getting to a water supply because the building was located more than 1,000 feet from a hydrant.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
