A mass at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church is scheduled for Tuesday at noon to pray for relief from the wildfires throughout East Tennessee.
The service is scheduled a day after Gov. Bill Haslam declared a burn ban for 51 counties in response for ongoing drought and destructive wildfires throughout Middle and East Tennessee. The ban is in effect until Dec. 15.
“A Catholic Mass will be offered at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on Tuesday at noon asking God for relief from the wildfires that have reached downtown Chattanooga,” said Diocese of Knoxville director of communications Jim Wogan in an email to 10News.
Father David Carter will preside over Tuesday’s service, which is open to the public.
