East Tennessee's latest singing sensation Chris Blue took the stage Monday night on NBC's The Voice, wowing the crowd with Rihanna's 'Love on the Brain' during the show's Live Playoff round.
When the night started, he was among the 24 singers left for Season 12. By night's end, six would go home and six would move on.
America came out in full force and voted Chris into the Top 12.
His rendition of 'Love on the Brain' put his incredible range on full display as Chris belted out the lyrics in the same key that Rihanna originally used for the song.
It also hit close to home for Chris, a worship leader at Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Knoxville, who said the song represented his heart while dealing with the struggles he's faced in a long distance relationship. Chris's fiancé lives in England and the two are maintaining a long-distance relationship, made tougher by the fact that she is battling bone marrow cancer
"It's always the love that keeps me coming back," Chris described.
When it came time for the performance, Chris captivated the crowd and the judges.
Gwen Stefani went so far as to call it mesmerizing.
Meanwhile, his own coach, Alicia Keys added onto the praise saying she was so impressed that Chris chose to conquer something he'd never sung before and made it completely his own.
"When Gwen says you are gifted, there is not a soul on a planet that can deny the gift that you are offering ," Keys said.
"You are a beautiful soul, you are a beautiful human being," Keys added. "You deserve every gift that you have and every gift you've yet to receive. So vote for Chris Blue so you can feel."
Based on Monday night's voting results, it's clear America wanted those Chris Blue feelings to keep going strong for another week.
Vanessa Ferguson and Stephanie Rice join Chris on Team Alicia in the Top 12. Lauren Duski, Aliyah Moulden, and TSoul will represent Team Blake in the Top 12.
Tuesday night's show will determine the other six artists to join them in the Top 12.
