Cumberland Avenue project improves safety

Officials said the average annual number of crashes involving walkers and bikers fell by 89 percent while traffic crashes fell by 44 percent.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A construction project that was a headache to many is finally paying off.

A new report from the city of Knoxville says the project has dramatically improved safety for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. 

Officials said the average annual number of crashes involving walkers and bikers fell by 89 percent while traffic crashes fell by 44 percent.
