Dolly Parton, Smokey Bear release wildfire prevention videos

Dolly Parton and Smokey Bear are asking for the public's help preventing wildfires in videos released over the weekend.

Dolly Parton and Smokey Bear are asking for the public’s help preventing wildfires in videos released over the weekend.

Wildfires have raged throughout Tennessee and in the Southeast for a few weeks.

“This extended drought has resulted in high wildfire danger,” Parton said in a video released Sunday. “As dry as it is, please help firefighters avoid wildfires.”

Parton asked the public to hold off on burning leaves, tie up chains on trailers to avoid sparks and don’t park vehicles on dry grass.

Gov. Bill Haslam issued a burn ban in 51 Tennessee counties until Dec. 15.

“Why don’t you help firefighters (and) keep the Smokies beautiful?” Parton said.

On Friday morning, Parton also released another video with Smokey Bear on her Facebook page.
