The Vols kick off the 2014 season next Sunday, and final preparations will be underway all week as East Tennessee prepares for gameday.

In the midst of thousands of students moving in and figuring out their class schedule, there's also a buzz building around the team. They say they are ready to take part in some old traditions, like the Vol walk and running through the T, and maybe even welcoming a new one.

"The atmosphere on the week leading up to game day. SEC games and the first home game, we can't beat it," said Andrew Berry, a junior at the University of Tennessee. "[To] wake up and hear Rocky Top playing in the band. And just to see 50,000 people, all rooting for the Vols."

Even other athletes at the school are gearing up for the season. Head Coach Butch Jones has made it a big point of discussion to connect his team with the community, and other teams on campus.

"We see Butch in the facility. He just seems like a real positive dude," said Chaz Merzbacker, a member of the men's golf team. "And you can't really tell unless you're on the football team, but I expect positivity on the football field."

"There is just so much excitement. That's all anyone is talking about," said A.J. Newell, a golfer on the women's golf team at UT. "As athletes, we are excited to get in and support each other and we want everyone to well. We are excited about it."

Tennessee's Student Government is also assembling a university-sponsored tailgate, which offers free food at a scenic area on campus.

"The majority of the All Vol tailgate will be funded by the student government association budget," said Connor Dugosh, Vice President of the student government. "But hopefully when it grows, we won't be able to do this for every home game, but hopefully it's perceived well and we can get support financially from the university."

As for students, fellow athletes, and the community, they are just ready for opening kickoff.

"I am just excited to be back in Neyland Stadium and see the Vols play. Hopefully we will get to a bowl game this year," said Berry.

"I am just excited for my first game. Get on my overalls. Orange checkered overalls. Get in the spirit. I can't wait," said Teleri Hughes with Lady Vols Golf.
