An Atlanta-based developer hopes to open a new Marriott hotel in downtown Knoxville by fall 2018.

Paramount Hospitality Group is planning an official groundbreaking on the dual-brand hotel in late April 2017. The building has nine stories and 232 rooms.

According to company representatives, the hotel's Residence Inn rooms will feature suites with kitchenettes. The Courtyard Marriott spaces will look more like a traditional hotel room.

The hotel will also have a parking garage with 226 spaces. Most of those will be underground.

It's located on the half block between West Church Avenue, State Street and Cumberland Avenue. That site is the former home to a Knoxville News Sentinel building. The newspaper moved to its present location in Mechanicsville in 2002, according to KNS.

The announcement comes a day after the Tennessean Hotel opened near World's Fair Park. The Farragut Hotel in downtown Knoxville is set to open by early fall.
