The University of Tennessee Police Department said Monday that it has been notified about two rapes that occurred on campus over the weekend.

Two female students reported being raped in separate incidents, according to a UT police safety notice that was e-mailed to students and posted online Monday afternoon.

The first incident occurred somewhere on campus between Saturday night and early Sunday morning while the second happened in a residence hall on the west side of campus around 12 a.m. Sunday.

The victim in the second incident reported being raped in her residence hall by a male that she knew. The specific residence hall info is being withheld to protect the victim's identity and no suspect description was provided, the release stated.

That case has been forwarded to UTPD Investigations.

UTPD said the victim of the first rape chose not to file a police report and resources have been provided to her.

The safety notice also included safety tips advising students to report any and all suspicious activity to police and noted that 75-80% of sexual assaults are committed by a "non-stranger."
