More than 100 people are going behind bars to raise money and awareness for those diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases that take away some of their most basic freedoms.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association “Lock-Up” event is sponsored by Bonefish Grill and runs from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday. ‘Jailbirds,’ like WBIR’s own Daniel Sechtin, will be locked up until they raise enough money for bail to break free.
Fourth-grader Hayden Christ, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, decided he wanted to be locked up to help other kids like himself go to MDA’s summer camp, which lets kids go swimming, zip-lining, horseback riding, and just enjoy being a kid.
Executive Director Teresa Underwood said Christ raised more than $4,000 last year to send two children to camp, and this year he set a goal to raise $6,000 so three children could go. Christ surpassed his lofty goal on Tuesday morning.
