Driver escapes burning truck with minor injuries

It appears that the vehicle on fire is a semi-truck that does not have a trailer attached.

The driver of a truck that caught fire on I-40 escaped with only minor injuries, according to the Knoxville Fire Department.

The semi-truck, which was not hooked to a trailer, caught fire just before noon in the westbound lanes of the interstate, between I-640 and the Papermill exit. The westbound lanes were blocked for a time, according to TDOT, but traffic is now moving smoothly again.

Eastbound traffic was slightly impacted as people slowed down to get a look at the fire.

There is no word yet on what caused the fire. The driver was transported to the hospital for minor burns.
