The Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound shared Christmas footage with the public dating back to the 1800s.
That was Sunday afternoon on Gay Street at the East Tennessee Historical Society where dozens of people watched old footage of holidays from the past.
"Preserving Knoxville's stories is very important," Paul James, development director for the Knoxville History Project, said. "People can develop a deeper affection and a deeper understanding of how things have changed."
James also said knowing Knoxville's history can help someone appreciate its culture.
"It really helps feeds the understanding and appreciation of our local culture. And it informs our culture," James said.
A book with a collection of stories of Knoxville's Christmas history is available online at Knoxville History Project's website.
