An east Tennessee district attorney was found dead in a Nashville hotel room Sunday morning, according to police.

Anthony "Tony" Clark, 54, of Unicoi County, died Sunday at the Cambria Hotel, according to a tweet from the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The northeast Tennessee district attorney "died from apparent natural causes," and was scheduled to have a medical procedure in Nashville this coming week, the tweet says. Family members were in town with Clark.

Nashville District Attorney General Glenn Funk issued a statement about Clark's death Sunday afternoon.

"I had the honor of working with General Tony Clark for the past four years and will remember him as a dedicated public servant," the statement says. "Our condolences go to his family, to his dedicated staff and to the people of the first judicial district."

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation tweeted about Clark's death Sunday afternoon.

Clark, a Johnson City native, was reelected to an eight-year term in 2014 representing the first judicial district, which includes Carter, Johnson, Unicoi and Washington counties.
