Two Bearden High School students were taken by ambulance to the hospital Friday afternoon after they passed out, according to a Knox County Schools spokeswoman.

Carly Harrington said the students were taken about 1 p.m. to East Tennessee Children's Hospital as a precaution to be checked. She said they were conscious when they were transported.

The students, members of the school's ROTC program, had marched in Friday's Veterans Day parade and then returned to school, according to Harrington.

Emergency personnel first were dispatched about three students -- two freshmen and a sophomore -- passing out at the school.

Harrington said she didn't have immediate information on the students' circumstances at the time they fainted.

The students' parents have been notified, the spokeswoman said.

Maj. Dave Bower of the ROTC program and Assistant Principal Cassandra Dowd also responded to the hospital, according to Harrington.

We'll have more details as they become available.
