The deadline for students to apply for TN Promise is quickly approaching, and the program still needs nearly 5,000 more mentors across the state.
About 60,000 students are expected to complete the TN Promise application by the Nov. 1 deadline. A key part of the program is the volunteer mentors that are paired with each student.
Current mentors met with their TN Promise students in Knoxville Wednesday night to highlight upcoming deadlines to keep their scholarships. The program offers high school graduates two years of community or technical college for free if students meet certain benchmarks in school and community service.
As of this week, 4,026 mentors were signed up for the program this year. There are still 4,979 mentors needed to meet the student demand.
In Knox County, 357 mentors have applied, and 260 are still needed.
Mentors must be at least 21 years old, and need to apply by Nov. 20. You can fill out an application online.
