Students at Farragut Intermediate and Farragut Middle School were evacuated Monday afternoon after officials reported smoke on the third floor.

Knox County Schools Director of Public Affairs Carly Harrington said there was a report of smoke in one of the Farragut Middle School classrooms.

Rural Metro Fire Chief Jerry Harnish told 10News that crews found a motor head on an air unit had locked up and was to blame for the smoke issue.

There did not appear to be any fire, Chief Harnish said.

Knox County Schools said students were back inside by 2:55 p.m.

A 10News crew headed to the scene reported the road was blocked off and there's a long line of cars heading toward the schools.
