The first of thee candidates for UT Chancellor addressed members of the university during a forum Wednesday to talk about her qualifications for the job.
Pamela Whitten is currently the top academic officer at the University of Georgia.
During the forum, she spoke about the great progress she thinks UGA has made while she's been there and said applying for the UT job is all about the opportunity.
"What's a school that exhibits the traits and the trends and the values that are akin to the type of university that you would like to lead, and the University of Tennessee ... meets that criteria, so that's why Tennessee," she said.
Whitten is the first of three scheduled candidates to visit campus. The names of the other two candidates have not yet been released.
The second candidate will interview on Nov. 7.
The new chancellor will replace Jimmy Cheek, who announced in June that he will step down once his replacement is selected. Cheek will move to a role in the university's College of Education Health and Human Sciences.
