Snowboarding vs. skiing: A friendly rivalry for two middle school students

Two middle schoolers are determined to convince the other that their sport of choice is the superior one.

Deciding whether snowboarding or skiing is better belongs in the same category as picking a favorite ice cream flavor.

Chances are slim that chocolate lovers will convert any vanilla fans, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try.

The same goes for a pair of friends determined to convince the other that their sport of choice is the superior one.

“It’s not even a competition. Skiing rules,” taunted 8th grader Matthew Hart. “You can go faster and do more tricks.”

Hart has it all wrong if you ask his friend 6th grader Andrew Cox.

“I hate skiing. I go back to [snowboarding] and I’m like ‘ahhhh so much better.’”

The friendly rivalry started long before the two hopped on the ski lift.

“We’re on the drive up here, and they’re all excited because they’re out of school, and I’ve got one who has all snowboarding gear, and I have another who has all skiing gear,” Emily Cox, Andrew’s mom, said. “There’s a banter back and forth like, 'You should go skiing.’ and ‘Here’s why you should go snowboarding.’ They kind of get into it.”

At the end of the day, there are no hard feelings between the two; not many anyway.

“I still hate him for it a little bit, but it’s okay,” said Cox.

“It’s a little iffy, but we’re still friends,” joked Hart.

They’re both still convinced their own sport is the better choice.
