Fountain City Kroger reopens after burst water pipe caused flooding

Water could be seen cascading out of an employee entrance at the Fountain City Kroger Monday.

UPDATE, Wednesday, Feb. 14: The Fountain City Kroger reopened at 4 p.m. after being closed for two days because a water pipe burst and caused flooding in the store.

A spokesperson said the while the store reopened for business Wednesday afternoon, the produce, meat, seafood and deli/bakery departments weren't expected to be fully stocked until Thursday afternoon.

ORIGINAL STORY, Monday, Feb. 12: Fountain City residents hoping to do some grocery shopping at the Kroger off North Broadway will have to head to another location temporarily.

A Kroger representative said the store will be closed for "definitely a couple of days." The representative said there is not an exact day and time yet for reopening.

Employees and customers at the Fountain City Kroger at 5201 North Broadway had to evacuate after a water pipe appeared to have burst Monday, flooding the store and sending water cascading out of an employee entrance.

A representative of Kroger said the store is closed until they can fix the damage.

Crews are still trying to determine the root cause of the pipe burst.
