(WBIR) A major back-up in Jefferson County is affecting the busiest travel day of the July 4th holiday weekend.

According to TDOT, Interstate 40 Westbound was temporarily shut down Thursday in Jefferson County around 2 p.m. because of a disabled tractor trailer on the bridge under repair at mile marker 425.

Crews moved the vehicle out of the way and reopened westbound traffic around 2:40 p.m.

Dandridge Fire Department told 10News the truck was also leaking fuel. By the time it was moved, officials said 100-150 gallons of fuel spilled into Douglas Lake.

After the incident, TWRA worked to keep boaters away from the area.

Although the road is back open, traffic is still backed up and slow moving on I-40 westbound in Jefferson County.
