An East Tennessee sheriff said a 13-year-old was defending himself and his family when he stabbed and killed a man.

It happened around 8:45 p.m. Monday in Russellville. The Hamblen County Sheriff's Office says when deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered Giorgio Armani Kyle had been stabbed in his stomach.

Deputies said a 13-year-old boy had stabbed Kyle during a fight between Kyle and the teen's aunts. They said Kyle had gone to the house to confront his girlfriend, Kelsey Jackson. According to statements, Kyle hit Jackson during the confrontation, and had hit her on other previous occasions.

Jackson's sister said she went to check on the couple when she heard arguing and was pushed by Kyle.

"I tried to tell him not to come here because I knew there would be an altercation. Because there's not one time he doesn't put hands on me," said the teen's aunt and Kyle's girlfriend, Kelsey Jackson.

Deputies said the teen stabbed Kyle during the argument. Kyle was flown by Lifestar to UT Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

"It was what we feel like was self defense. I'm sure the woman felt like she was going to be beaten severely if not killed and the nephew felt the same way," said Hamblen County Sheriff Esco Jarnigan. "He cried after he stabbed him. It's not the typical murder, homicide, or killing that we normally see. There was a lot of remorse."

The boy's name has not been released. The investigation is ongoing.

"He just lost his mother. And now this. It's going to be hard," Jackson said. "How do you move on with your life?"

"That's not something a 13-year-old should be exposed to at that age," said Sheriff Jarnigan.

Kyle's family said he recently turned his life around and was working toward a degree at Tennessee Tech.
