'It's sickening': Powell shooting victim's friend reacts to arrests

Sheila Fox cut 19-year-old Cameron Smith's hair every few weeks for the last year. She says his death was tragic, and the arrests give her some relief from her grieving.

The death of 19-year-old Cameron Smith after a car chase and shooting has devastated the Powell community, including Sheila Fox, who owns Talk Of The Town Hair Salon on West Emory Road.

"(Smith) was probably my third client," Fox said.

Smith was there as Fox started her hair salon business, so to hear about the end of his life broke her heart.

"It's sickening," Fox said, referring to how Smith died.

"He was just very respectful, very polite," she said.

How it happened surprised her.

"It's 80 bucks, I mean that's not that much money," Fox said. "You know you would have thought it would've been over a few hundred bucks."

$80 of marijuana - that's what the Knox County Sheriff's Office says Lucas Halliburton bought from a man now accused of shooting and killing Smith during a car chase Oct. 10.

Halliburton used fake money to pay for the drugs. It's called "movie money."

Counterfeit experts say it looks and feels like the real stuff, but it says "motion picture use only" on the back.

The sheriff's office also says Smith was driving the car when the two men were shot, but was unaware of the drug deal.

"You know but 80 bucks is awful," Fox said. "There's no reason."

21-year-old Jorge Ortiz and 18-year-old Cameron Brewer have been charged with first-degree murder. A 16-year-old boy has been charged with felony murder.

Fox said the news of arrests in the case helped her grief.

"Very relieved," Fox said. "Very, very, very, very relieved--very happy. My heart can kind of breath a little more."

"I feel, and I'm sure the community feels, a lot safer," she said.

Fox, who has a 10-year-old son, said kids can learn from what happened.

"We've just got to educate, and educate more and more," Fox said. "Watch and know your kids and your friends and their friends."

Fox said she hopes justice will be served as the accused shooters face possible punishment.

She said she felt Cameron's energy every time he walked through her door.
