A pickup truck pulling a horse trailer caught fire on Interstate 40 near Strawberry Plains early Sunday afternoon, according to the Knoxville Fire Department.

KFD said the trailer was carrying two pleasure horses. The driver got the horses out of the trailer safely before firefighters arrived. The horses were not injured.

The truck caught fire at mile marker 399 around 12:30 p.m. on I-40 westbound.

KFD said the fire was in the truck's engine compartment.

One lane of westbound traffic was blocked while fire crews responded to the fire. The eastbound lanes remained open, but drivers experienced traffic delays for a while.
