Knox Co. leaders compromise on Hardin Valley residential zoning

Knox Co. leaders voted to increase the number of homes per acre on a property being developed in the Hardin Valley area.

The Knox County Commission voted to allow three homes per acre on a new residential development property near Hardin Valley Road and Steele Road Monday night.

The commission voted 10-1 to increase the number of homes per acre in the development from the current zoning standard of two.

The developer initially requested that leaders increase the number to five.

County leaders said the area has seen a lot of growth, and there are some concerns about traffic in the neighborhood.

"There's been a lot of growth. There's three schools in the area. There's a new traffic light, so there's been some improvements in that area, but five is probably too much for the topography of the area," Knox Co. Commissioner Brad Anders said.

Anders said the county is getting ready to conduct a traffic study in the Hardin Valley area to make it safer.
