Knox County leaders are teaming up with AT&T in a renewed effort to stop distracted driving.

They launched the "It can wait" campaign Monday. It urges drivers to keep their eyes on the road, not on their smartphones.

Statistics show one in every four car crashes in the United States is caused by distracted driving.

Leaders say texting and driving is a problem among all drivers, both young and old.

Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett signed proclamations recognizing the week of Oct. 24 as “It Can Wait Pledge Week."

Drivers are encouraged to take the "It can wait" pledge. You can take it online or by texting "ItCanW865" to 50-555.
