Local Boy Scout troops are the first in the country to test a new program.

The National Executive Board granted permission to the Great Smoky Mountain Council to test a new program called STEM Scouts.

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. STEM scouts interact weekly with professionals in those emphasis areas, as well as take field trips related to those subjects.

The Clayton Bradley Academy in Maryville as well as the Oak Ridge High School troops are already applying STEM plans.
