A 68-year-old Knoxville man died Wednesday afternoon after pulling out in front of a delivery van on Byington Solway Road in northwest Knox County, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
The crash happened about 5:15 p.m. at Oak Ridge Highway.
KCSO identified the man on Thursday as Gerald Henry.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Henry was in a white Nissan Frontier and pulled in front of a westbound Auto Zone van "while attempting to either cross over or turn left onto Byington Solway Road."
The van driver couldn't avoid a collision, according to the Sheriff's Office. The van clipped the back of the Nissan.
The Nissan spun around and hit a telephone pole. Henry was pronounced dead at the scene.
It's not clear yet if the Nissan driver wore a seat belt. The van driver was wearing a seat belt.
