Blount County students may have to wait a little longer for some new textbooks.

This week, the Board of Education voted against a proposal to use reserve funds to pay for new Social Studies textbooks and roof repairs to two elementary schools.

Blount County residents voted in Mayto increase the sales tax by half a percent. The school system plans to use its share of that money for textbooks, building improvements, and technology.

A spokesperson for the school system says they want to wait for that tax revenue to get here, instead of dipping into the reserve funds
