(WBIR) A boat traveled 40 feet across dry land before hitting a tree in Monroe County over the weekend, according to a Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency spokesperson.

Dan Hicks with TWRA said Allen Harper, 33, of Sweetwater was driving at a fast rate of speed when his 18-foot boat ran ashore on Tellico Lake near the Toqua Campground at about 10 p.m. Friday.

Crews airlifted two men and drove another to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Hicks said the hospital recently released Harper. WBIR 10News doesn't know the condition of the two other men injured, 22-year-old James Teele of Morristown and 29-year-old Jeffery Gunnerson.

TWRA said it's still investigating the accident, and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
